How it works

How College Decision Center Estimates College Cost and ROI

College Decision Center uses the information entered by the user: net price, years attending, planned borrowing, interest rate, loan term, major, expected salary, and optional assumptions like graduation likelihood or salary growth.

The result is an estimate. It depends on the numbers entered and the assumptions shown. Blank numeric fields are treated as zero unless the calculator has a visible default.

Loan payments use a standard amortizing payment formula. Earnings estimates use the salary entered by the user when available, otherwise a broad major-based placeholder is used so the calculator can still provide a rough planning answer.

The decision center is meant to help people understand options and tradeoffs. It does not make decisions for users, replace official school or loan information, or provide financial, legal, tax, admissions, student loan, educational, or professional advice.

The final decision always belongs to the user. This site exists to make the situation easier to see clearly, one step at a time.
